Trouble for EU: New rotating president Austria adopts hardline approach to immigration

Austria is about to assume the six-month rotating presidency of the European Union on July 1. This offers a glimmer of hope, given the suicidal direction of the EU in its open border immigration policy. As the new council president, Austria is adopting a hardline approach to the Muslim migrant crisis:

Afghans, Africans and Syrians seeking refuge in the European Union would have to submit asylum applications prior to entering the bloc under strict new proposals put forward by Austria.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz recently received death threats because of his no-nonsense approach to jihad terror and Islamic supremacist intimidation. Kurz’s government “announced a crackdown on hate preaching and political Islam,” which led to the closing of several mosques. An anti-terrorism probe was subsequently opened.

In the past, Kurz stated that he was “positioning his country as a bridge between the ‘Visegrad group’ of eastern European nations and their western counterparts.” The policy of the Visegrad group (Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic) has been to strengthen border controls and stop the flow of migrants.

“MIGRANT CRISIS: Trouble for EU as new council president Austria adopts hardline approach,” by Daniel Khalili-Tari, Express, June 26, 2017:

AFGHANS, Africans and Syrians seeking refuge in the European Union would have to submit asylum applications prior to entering the bloc under strict new proposals put forward by Austria.

The motion would see the bloc move away from its current system, much criticised “frontline” Mediterranean states including Greece and Italy have criticised, who claim it has led to them taking in a “disproportionate” amount of migrants.

This sees migrants submit applications at the first EU country they arrive in.

Austria’s proposals are an indication of the hardline tactics which the country will take on migration once it assumes the EU’s rotating presidency on July 1.

The document, highlights how the government of Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, which includes the far-right Freedom Party, intends to use the country’s six-month EU presidency to propagate a more stringent political response to the bloc’s migrant crisis……
