Pakistan: Seminar speakers say Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance, harmony and brotherhood

They have to keep repeating this, because it is so contrary to fact and to the evidence of the daily headlines.

President Mamnoon Hussain addressing the Launching Ceremony of “Paigham-e-Pakistan” at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad on January 16, 2018.

If Islam is a religion of peace, tolerance, harmony and brotherhood, it has been misunderstood by mainstream Islamic authorities throughout the history of the religion. In my new book The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS, I trace the 1,400-year war of Islamic jihadis against the rest of the world, detailing the jihad against Europe, including the 700-year struggle to conquer Constantinople; the jihad in Spain, where non-Muslims fought for another 700 years to get the jihadi invaders out of the country; and the jihad against India, where Muslim warriors and conquerors wrought unparalleled and unfathomable devastation in the name of their religion.

Told in great part in the words of contemporary chroniclers themselves, both Muslim and non-Muslim, The History of Jihad shows that jihad warfare has been a constant of Islam from its very beginnings, and present-day jihad terrorism proceeds along exactly the same ideological and theological foundations as did the great Islamic warrior states and jihad commanders of the past.

The History of Jihad From Muhammad to ISIS is the first one-volume history of jihad in the English language, and the first book to tell the whole truth about Islam’s bloody history in an age when Islamic jihadis are more assertive in Western countries than they have been for centuries. “Islam a religion of peace, tolerance, harmony and brotherhood: Speakers,” The Nation (Pakistan), September 8, 2018:

Islamabad-Speakers at a seminar here on Friday stressed that Islam is the religion of peace as it teaches unity, harmony, brotherhood and tolerance in the society. The ‘Paigham-e-Pakistan’ seminar was organized by the Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) at the Faisal Mosque campus. Deputy Sheikh and Senior Advisor to Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Institute Egypt Dr Muhammad Mohanna was the chief guest on the occasion. A large number of students and faculty members from the IIUI participated in the ceremony.

Addressing the participants, Dr Mohanna said Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative of the government of Pakistan was the best tool to deal with growing extremism and intolerance in the society and to encourage the youth towards positive and constructive activities. “It is a beacon of hope for all segments of society,” he said, adding that the document is the best depiction of Quran, Sunnah and social principles of the Islamic Shariah. “This initiative can guarantee a safe and peaceful future for our next generations by ridding the society of hatred and prejudices,” he added.

Other speakers stressed that Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative was in fact a description of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. “Promotion of this initiative is the national and religious obligation of the ulema and mashaikh belonging to all sects and religious groups,” they said, and added that being Muslims it was their national and religious responsibility to strive for setting up a peaceful and exemplary society which was free of bigotry and racism. “Every individual of the Muslim Ummah will have to play his part to achieve this goal,” they added….
