Just when you thought people couldn’t get any sicker, members of the Islamist Party in Morocco celebrated an act of terror.
Five Muslims in Morocco were arrested after they took to social media to celebrate the death of Andrei Karlov,the Russian ambassador to Turkey, after he was murdered by a terrorist who was angered over Russia’s presence in Syria.
The five men belong to the youth movement of Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane’s Justice and Development Party (PJD), which said it plans to defend the five me who were detained. Benkirane has openly criticized Russia’s intervention in Syria.
In Morocco, it is a crime to justify terrorism, and people who are caught can face up to six years in prison and large fines.
Authorities arrested the five from the youth movement of Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane’s Justice and Development Party (PJD), the source said, after the assassination of Andrei Karlov on December 19.
The Akhbar Al-Yaoum daily reported a sixth person had been called in for questioning.
The PJD, whose leader has been tasked with forming a new governing coalition after winning October parliamentary polls, has yet to comment on the arrests.
